Configurations

Everyone can come along! The original rear seat remains in the Caddy Maxi, and it can still be used when transporting a wheelchair passenger. With the non-extended version of the Caddy, part of the bench has to be folded down. This means that the Maxi can carry five able-bodied passengers and one wheelchair passenger. If that is not enough, there is still room for a pair of separate seats in the third row, available as an option, allowing you to accommodate a maximum of seven passengers. When transporting a wheelchair passenger these seats in the third row are folded away. Thanks to the B-Active kit, the Caddy Maxi is a multi-purpose vehicle!

Variants B-Active Caddy Maxi WAV

You can choose from two variants of the B-Active VW Caddy Maxi, namely the 84+ and 85.

B-Active Caddy Maxi 84+

The 84+ conversion can be completed very quickly by conversion companies, in just 16 hours. This is possible because the original tank is maintained and therefore fewer parts are needed. That makes this kit very attractive from the cost perspective. The downside is that the floor is built over the tank and therefore not 100% flat. The number ‘84’ refers to the width of the wheelchair space. The B-Active 84+ is mostly used for professional use, such as taxi transport.

B-Active Caddy Maxi 85

The 85 is a more comfortable choice for the wheelchair passenger, because the floor is completely flat. This creates much more interior space, as the distance to the roof is greater compared to the 84+. The wheelchair space is also wider... you guessed it: 85 cm wide. Because the floor is flat, a fuel tank specially designed by B-Style is placed elsewhere under the Caddy Maxi. This means it takes longer to install this B-Active kit than the 84+. Despite costing more, due to extra components and longer installation time, this is the most popular conversion kit, due to the greater comfort and convenience it offers.

Because B-Style has, itself, been a conversion company for 44 years, a great wealth of knowledge has been gained about all aspects of conversion, and that knowledge has been put to good use in the development of the kit. What is a conversion kit?

There are several options you can choose from to personalize your Volkswagen Caddy Maxi wheelchair car. For example, you can opt for high-quality, wear-resistant vinyl on the floor. The sides of the conversion can be fitted with an aluminium strip or ABS plastic cut to size. For extra visibility in the dark, a LED strip is available that automatically lights up when lowering the wheelchair ramp. Operation of the wheelchair ramp can be made easier with a gas spring. There is also a version of the wheelchair ramp that can be folded inwards in its entirety, so it can lie horizontally in the Caddy Maxi when no wheelchair passenger is present to provide extra luggage space. There is an option to add two folding seats in the third row allowing the Caddy Maxi to seat a total of seven able-bodied passengers or five seated and one wheelchair passenger.

Installation

To make a Volkswagen Caddy suitable for use as a wheelchair vehicle a section is cut out of the floor. B-Style supplies a template for this, to ensure the cut-out is exactly the right size. The B-Style kit then fits perfectly in the Caddy Maxi and provides a lower entry and more space for the wheelchair passenger. Everything needed to perform the conversion is included, such as a new fuel tank, the wheelchair ramp, belts and all the necessary fasteners. In series production, the Volkswagen Caddy is converted into a wheelchair car with a B-Active kit in 16 to 40 hours, depending on the model. There is no welding involved.

Premium Partner Volkswagen + LONO

B-Style is a Premium Partner of Volkswagen. This means that Volkswagen recognizes the quality of B-Style and considers us to be an official conversion partner. A LONO (letter of non-objection) has been obtained for the B-Active kit for the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi, which means that the manufacturer's warranty remains valid after the conversion.

All the official documentation required for conversion of a Volkswagen Caddy into a WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) is provided by B-Style. This includes the European Type Approval for the complete model range, as well as a second-phase Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for each specific model. The advantage of the latter is that the conversion company does not have to have each individual vehicle approved prior to registration. And that means huge time-savings.
